Bruce Green

Bruce Richard Green, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at CT. Hospice in Branford. He was born on April 15, 1947 to Hyman and Belle Green.

After graduating from Hillhouse High School, Bruce served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. After being discharged from the Air Force he joined the New Haven Fire Department, where subsequently he was injured in the line of duty. Even though his firefighting career was short lived, being a firefighter was truly his life’s passion.

Bruce enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling, and supporting his grandchildren as they participated in their various activities. Bruce enjoyed spending his time playing poker with his wife Laurie.

He is survived by his wife Laurie, children from his first marriage, Corey Green (Zeila), Tracey Trowbridge (Timothy), Scott Green (Gina), and his stepdaughter Elizabeth Somers (TJ), grandchildren Zachary, Taylor, Juan, Matthew, Jennifer, Christine, Brittney, and Taylor. Bruce was predeceased by his second wife Teala, brother Leonard, and sister Shirlianne.

The family would like to thank the Pulmonary team at Winchester Chest at YNHH, Jennifer Possick M.D., Gail Stanley M.D., Jon Koff M.D., Ben Chan Ph.D.
Funeral Services will be held at Beaverdale Memorial Park, 90 Pine Rock Ave., New Haven on FRIDAY morning March 8th at 10:00. The Robert E. Shure & Son Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.

Firefighter Bruce Green sustained serious life long complications from this fire. His heroic actions displayed protecting the City of New Haven have been eternally memorialized on the mural displayed at the New Haven Fire Regional Training Academy.
